Committee
Advocacy Action is managed by a Committee made up from its members. Usually the Committee is elected each year at the AGM, although in the first year the Committee is selected by the founder members.
We hope our Committee members reflect the diversity of advocacy across Wakefield District, and we have reserved six places (out of a maximum of 14) for people who are beneficiaries of advocacy themselves.
We try to make our meetings friendly and accessible, and we hope people find them productive and worthwhile. Some of our meetings are more like informal networking sessions, and we can use them as opportunites for peer support for advocates if there's not too much business on the agenda.
You can see recent reports and meeting notes here.
Management Committee members:
Paul Wright (Co-Chair) (from Cloverleaf)
Carol McGrath (Co-Chair) (Carers Wakefield District)
Ben Brown (Treasurer) (Urban Space Community)
Maggie Clarke (from the Children's Advocacy Service)
Maureen Slack (from Lift Up self advocacy group)
Fatemeh Shabram (from RASA)
Glynis Stirling (Mental health service user involvement, SWYMHT)
Several other members of the former Steering Group (see History) are awaiting clarification from their managers as to whether they can join the Management Committee, and several other users of advocacy have been suggested as possible members, to be confirmed shortly.
